Deja Vu at the Casino: Colorado Man Arrested After $76,000 Cash Cage Heist

In a brazen display of repeat criminal behavior, a 26-year-old Colorado man is behind bars after allegedly stealing over $76,000 from a Cripple Creek casino—a feat he reportedly accomplished by repeating tactics from a failed attempt just weeks prior.

Andrew Joel Irvine of Colorado Springs was taken into custody on August 24, 2025, following the theft at J.P. McGill’s Casino. According to reports from KKTV, the suspect’s return to the scene was met with immediate recognition from casino staff.

The Anatomy of the Theft

Surveillance footage captured the methodical nature of the alleged crime, which took place in the early hours of the morning:

  • 4:00 a.m.: Irvine was spotted entering the casino unmasked, surveying the area near the cashier’s cage before briefly exiting the building.

  • The Return: Approximately one minute later, he re-entered wearing a mask.

  • The Heist: Employees reported that Irvine jumped over the cashier’s cage counter—a move that felt hauntingly familiar to staff.

In a previous incident on July 19, 2025, a cashier had successfully fended off an attempted robbery by the same individual. This time, however, Irvine faced no resistance. Because the casino employee was in an adjacent room at the time, Irvine was able to clear out the cage and flee in less than two minutes without ever interacting with staff.

Caught and Confessed

Following the theft, local law enforcement acted quickly. Irvine was located later that day near the Cottonwood Creek Trail in Colorado Springs and taken into custody.

His apprehension was bolstered by an active warrant related to the July 19 attempt. During his time in a holding cell, the arresting officer noted that Irvine made an unprompted admission, stating, “I was dumb, I like broke the law.”

As of the latest reports, Irvine remains in the Teller County jail, currently held on a $50,000 bond.
