S.C. Convenience Store Employees Arrested in Lottery Fraud Scheme

Two employees at a South Carolina convenience store have been arrested after investigators say they ran a lottery fraud scheme that exploited their position behind the counter to steal winning tickets from unsuspecting customers.

How the Scheme Worked

The fraud relied on a technique known as "ticket switching" — a well-documented form of lottery retail fraud where an employee scans a customer's ticket under the guise of checking whether it's a winner, then pockets the ticket and hands back a losing one.
