Former NBA Players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis Indicted in Sports Betting Scandal

Breaking: Former NBA Players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis Indicted in Sports Betting Scandal

The world of professional basketball has been rocked by serious allegations today. Federal prosecutors in the Eastern District of New York have unsealed an indictment against former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis, accusing them of orchestrating a sophisticated scheme to manipulate game statistics for illegal gambling profits.

The indictment, made public on June 29, 2026, details a complex operation that allegedly turned NBA games into a “criminal betting operation,” according to U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr.

The Allegations

Prosecutors claim that the scheme began when Beasley, struggling with millions of dollars in gambling debt, turned to his former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate, Ed Davis, for financial assistance. Davis allegedly acted as a “gatekeeper” and a facilitator for the operation.

The core of the accusation involves four games during the 2023-24 NBA season while Beasley was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. Prosecutors allege that:

  • Beasley would coordinate with Davis ahead of specific games to disclose his intent to either underperform or overperform in certain statistical categories (such as points or rebounds).

  • Davis would then pass this non-public “insider” information to a network of co-conspirators.

  • These individuals used the information to place wagers on prop bets, allegedly earning hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The Key Players

In addition to Beasley and Davis, the indictment names four other individuals as co-conspirators:

  • Paolo Zamorano (a current NBA player agent)

  • William “Willo” Brown

  • Ernesto Plascencia

  • Robert Gorodetsky

All six defendants are facing serious federal charges, including wire fraud conspiracy, bribery in sporting contests, honest services wire fraud, and money laundering conspiracy.

A Pattern of “Fixed” Performance

The court filings provide specific examples of the alleged manipulation. In one instance during a March 10, 2024, game against the LA Clippers, prosecutors allege that Beasley intentionally hunted for a fourth rebound in the final seconds of the game specifically to ensure that the “over” prop bet hit for his co-conspirators.

Text messages cited in the indictment—such as Davis telling Beasley, “Only way you can beat Vegas is sports betting. Everything else they got the edge”—paint a picture of a calculated effort to exploit the system.

The Fallout

This development is the latest in a series of gambling-related investigations that have hit professional sports recently. With legalized sports betting becoming widespread across the U.S., the integrity of these leagues has come under intense scrutiny.

Malik Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, has released a statement maintaining his client’s innocence, urging the public to “reserve judgment until all the facts are known.”

The NBA has stated that they are in the process of reviewing the indictment and are cooperating with authorities. The league noted that protecting the integrity of the game remains its “top priority.”

As this is a developing legal matter, we will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available from the federal courts.
